Monthly Websites for Small Businesses: Built to Get You Calls, Not Compliments
A simple, fast website for a low monthly fee, with SEO included and no tie-in. Why web design changed, and why plain sites win calls.
I'll be straight about why we build websites this way. Most people who get in touch have been let down once already. They paid a few thousand pounds for a site, the designer went quiet, and now they can't even change their phone number.
Others have decided they don't need a website at all, because work has always come by word of mouth. Both are fair places to start from, and this article is for both.
How has web design changed?
It has reset three times. First came templates, and a decent layout that once cost thousands cost a few hundred. Then came page builders like Wix and Squarespace, and anyone could drag a site together. Now there is AI, which can build a full page from a single sentence in a couple of minutes.
Web designer Jennie Lakenan made a point in a recent video that stuck with me. AI did not change web design so much as speed up something already happening. Each time, looking good got cheaper, until looking good stopped telling anyone anything.
That matters to you. A big animated site used to say “serious business”. Now anyone can make one in an afternoon, and visitors have seen the same thing a hundred times.
Do flashy websites win customers?
Mostly, no. In my experience the sites that work best for small businesses are fairly plain. A clear headline that says what you do and where. A phone number you can tap. A few real reviews. One obvious button. Nothing flying in from the side.
Think about someone with a leaking tap, searching on their phone. They don't care about animation. They want three questions answered.
Do you cover my area?
Name the towns you work in, in plain words, near the top of the page.
Can I trust you?
A few real reviews from real customers, with names and places.
How do I reach you?
A phone number you can tap and one obvious button.
A site that answers those in ten seconds beats a beautiful one that takes longer.
What is a monthly website?
You pay a low monthly fee and we build the site, host it and look after it. It is usually live within 7 to 14 days of us receiving your words, photos and logo. The contract rolls monthly with no tie-in, so you are not left out of pocket if it turns out not to suit you.
We use AI to do the building, and that is why the price can be what it is. The old way meant a designer spending weeks on layouts and effects, and you paid for those hours. We spend our time on the parts that make people ring you: who your customer is, what worries them, and what they need to see before they pick up the phone. AI does the heavy lifting on the build. The thinking is ours.
Starter is £74 a month for up to five pages, Professional is £249 a month and Business is £649 a month. Every plan is listed on our web design prices page, and you can set them against any one-off quote with the website cost calculator. For the longer explanation, see what is a pay monthly website.
Is SEO included in a monthly website?
Yes, and it isn't an extra. Every site is built with the SEO basics already done: page titles, headings, speed, mobile layout, and wording that makes it clear what you do and which towns you cover. That is what helps Google, and increasingly AI search tools, understand your business and recommend it.
Our Professional plan goes further, with on-page SEO work, Google Business Profile management and one to two blog posts a month.
How do you help me show up on Google?
We look at your Google Business Profile. For local businesses it often matters more than the website itself. We check your categories, services, description, photos, opening hours and reviews. Then we make sure your name, address and phone number match your website exactly, because Google notices when they don't.
If you're a plumber in Newport or a hairdresser in Swansea, the map results at the top of a search can bring you calls without anyone ever visiting your site. We won't promise you position one, because nobody honest can. What we can do is make sure you've given Google everything it needs. Our five local SEO tips for South Wales covers the detail.
What if I think I don't need a website?
You might be right. If you're fully booked, you may not.
But here is what usually happens. Someone recommends you, and the person who hears about you looks you up before they ring. If they find nothing, or an old Facebook page, some of them move on to the next name. Your website doesn't need to be big. One good page that says what you do, where you work and how to reach you can be enough. At £74 a month, that is less than a single job for most trades.
What if my last web designer disappeared?
It's the story we hear most. The site was built, the invoice was paid, and then nothing. Emails unanswered, phone number out of date, and nobody to ask.
We do it the other way round. We're a registered Cardiff company, number 07896792, and we answer the phone. You own everything. If you stop paying and leave, we hand over your website files and transfer your domain to you. Here is exactly what you own on each kind of plan.
Is a monthly website right for everyone?
No. If you need a custom booking system or a shop with thousands of products, you'll need something bigger, and we'll tell you that on the first call. If you want a showpiece full of animation, we're the wrong people.
If you want a simple website that brings in enquiries, at a price you can plan around, we probably are the right people.
